One of the people who have been prolific in using this boy’s pictures for fame is Profesa Odongo, while knowing fully well that the boy has been helped. He has repeatedly posted how he’s helping the boy and yet keeps delaying the funding.
Mwalimu Douglas Obonyo was miffed and told him off. He said
I was getting increasingly perturbed by the proliferation of misinformation disseminated by a select few individuals who seek undue credit for endeavours in which their involvement is either partial or tangential. Specifically, there have been public assertions, notably on social media platforms, wherein individuals claim credit for singlehandedly funding the tuition fees for one Orido Jerry Opiyo, a student who recently completed his KCPE at ST. Mercy Kokuro but encountered financial impediments in affording the prestigious Kanga High School.
My primary concern arises from the apparent need for more veracity in the narratives presented to their Facebook followers, whom the misleading information may unwittingly sway. As one deeply involved in facilitating the enrollment of this young individual at Kanga High School, I find it imperative to rectify the narrative and dispel any misconceptions surrounding his predicament.
Contrary to the claims propagated, the trajectory of events involves proactive intervention by the Kanga Alumni team, which promptly delegated the responsibility to the Class of ’95 for comprehensive engagement with Orido Jerry Opiyo’s educational pursuit. The team has successfully pooled the requisite school fees, with ongoing contributions continuing to bolster this initiative. Notably, a Mombasa-based organization, alongside additional well-wishers, collaborated to ensure the successful enrollment of the students.
This young individual finds himself in a fortuitous position, as the Mombasa-based group has dutifully covered the entire first-year fees, while the Kanga team, represented by the Class of ’95, has mirrored this financial commitment. Consequently, the student’s academic journey up to the second year has been underwritten. It is crucial to emphasize that the ensuing financial obligations for the subsequent years (Form three and four) will be comprehensively addressed by the Kanga Alumni team, particularly the Class of ’95.
Any dissemination of information to the contrary is a calculated act of misinformation designed to mislead the general public and garner unwarranted public relations mileage through the name of an innocent and vulnerable teenager hailing from a modest background. I implore your sense of reason and compassion in scrutinizing this matter’s facts.
We look forward to a time when needy cases will not be used for self agrandisment.
