Sooner or later, people who are over 40 will be retrenched because they are too expensive to keep. Employers will let them go.
Here’s what Mboya says
When I visit any bank, I keenly observe those serving me. I have noticed that all of them look young, below 30 years. Where did the older ones go?
You see, when working for a bank, your salary is increased annually or atleast after 2 years. In 10 years, your monthly salary will be over ksh 200,000. At this point you start being expensive to the bank. This is where you hear something like restructuring. More than 90% of people aged above 35 years are forcefully retired. Then the bank goes to the market to employ fresh graduates who they can pay ksh 35,000.
No matter how good you are,if your salary is above 300k,mark yourself as the next victim.
When you work in such a place, you should always have a side hustle such that even if you’re fired, you have something to fall back to.
The problem of being 40 and above is that you may not get another job after the retrenchment (Infact, being a cashier is not a skill,it’s like being a cleaner),the only thing you can do is to grow your side hustle.
You heard it right. Start preparing now.
Sandra Maya agrees
Tell them. Every year, equity recruits wings to fly beneficiaries and selective top students. They train for two weeks and employ them before they join university. That’s an entire year of cheap labor. Out of that group, the majority are willing to study banking and finance and comes back to work for the same bank. Na sio chocha
