The whole episode of being called out began when Amakove posted 3 jobs for which applications are being sought, at her hiring bureau for house managers. The posts in question were for a gardener, a driver and a nanny. She stated that each applicant must pay an application fee of Kshs.500 and was quite adamant that this is a normal process wherein applicants pay for jobs since she incurs expenses keeping her office open.
Upon being asked whether the bureau refunds any money to applicants when there is a deluge of applications like say if there were 20,000 applications, she said there was no refund. She also said that paying the fee did not guarantee any jobs. Then people got really mad and said she was conning people and that was how she manages to take her children to international expensive schools by relying on the plight of the needy.
Salline Handa remarked:
We shall abide by your instructions, Dr Wala…and call out exorbitant business models for what they are. It is how society self polices for better societal and business ethics. Let us all do better. A business model can be right or wrong without comparison to others. There are ideals….business and societal ideals that primarily do not exploit people, the envt etc without giving back. That is the standard. It won’t matter what other models exist, each one will be measured going by these standards. Any deviation will be called out by kihereheres such as myself even if the entire universe says “yes yes”. It is our calling😆
Annie Dee added:
Calling out a business, whether negatively or positively, is called customer feedback and is one of the very important KPIs that businesses use to improve their business strategies and tactics. This KPI is applicable in ALL business models whether public, private, profit or non profit. One doesn’t need to be a customer to give feedback. Google crawlers use that KPI, amongst others, to rank your business in SEO and SERPs and to even calculate your Google ad spend. Top notch entrepreneurs actually take surveys from the public in general to get insights on what they think about their business whether from an armchair or hands-on position and whether they’re potential or loyal clients. Some actually pay people to take the survey asking them to specify what they don’t like about the business. Customer feedback, whether armchair or pedestrian is the oxygen in overall company marketing strategy.
Amakove then responded
Here is a helpful business tip:
Registering a business name costs 900 Bob on Ecitizen. You just submit three proposed names and it takes them less than 48hrs to search and then approve the name. For companies it may take slightly longer and costs around 10K. Then apply for single business permits and what not. With that, you can run your own business best way you know how to.
Meanwhile, please let others run their businesses too. Refrain from calling them cons or getting shocked at the way they run their businesses.
The market is big. Join us from that armchair… Ahsante.
Well, what do you think? Is it fair to charge applicants for the jobs and never refund to those people who don’t even get an interview?
