The couple has defied the odds and braved a barrage of criticism just to put food on the table.
The couple do this on a daily basis to put food on their table. They have no other means of income.
Kisumu citizens were quite upset with the Nation newspaper for highlighting this story as it portrays a situation of intense poverty.
In fact Francis Onditi said
There are several “stories” (if you like) of discency from the Region Nyanza- from the thriving interactive interregional transport across East Africa thro’ Homa Bay, Muhuru Bay etc to the scenic Kit Mikai rolling hills of Seme and to the Kano plains and the potential sugar cane industry in the Nyando escarps- Muhoroni and the south western Rift sugar belt in the old south Nyanza. The magnificent Islands of Lake Victoria, the Homa hot springs and the Ruma National Park, are just but a few of the treasurers of the region pointing to the region’s potential economic hub.
All these and many other natural assets embolden humanity, mankind and discency.
But for some historical and political reasons, the Kenyan media (either unconsciously or diberately) concocts some dehumanizing stories from the Region creating a narrative of a People trapped in abject poverty and hopelessness.
For those who may not know, this is part of a grand political scheme to subdue a political Vision of a People through psychological warfare, and self hate.
Shame!
