Soyinka Lempaa a Kenyan lawyer says this
We wish to congratulate Jacque Maribe on landing a job in public service. Having met the values and principles of public service, congratulations are for her. This is after going through a gruesome murder trial.
If you want to commit a crime, choose your crime partners wisely. If you are induced into crime by wealthy men or women, think twice. First, the rich have money to go for the best lawyers. They may also go for the judge or magistrate him/herself.
The following are three coincidences: the rich are charged with the poor, the rich go off the hook, and the poor are sent to the gallows or prison.
The first case is the Muruwatetu Case. In this case, Muruwatetu had been charged alongside former Lands Commissioner Wilson Gachancha, his wife Gitiri, and six others. Gachancha was acquitted at the high court, while his wife was acquitted at the Court of Appeal.
Muruwatetu and other small convicts stayed in prison for over 30 years only to get a reprieve in the Supreme Court and only to be re-sentenced.
In 2004, Limuru MP John Kiragu Chege was charged alongside Richard Maeta, Peter Mulati, and Sikuku Wanjala for robbery with violence against Ngugi Wa Thiongo and his wife Njeeri. The three were guards at Norfolk Apartment in Nairobi.
John Kiragu was acquitted, but the three guards were sentenced to death. I am reliably told that two of them have since died in prison.
The world is cruel ….Le monde est merchant!
Now Jowi Irungu……Jacque, kindly visit this God Bit of Wood in Prison occasionally. He may have been a friend who needs you now more than before, although he can’t reach you now. The Bible says, I was in prison, and you visited me!
NB. In this post, I have quoted God’s Bits of Wood and the Bible as two works of fiction with earthly wisdom. So, let no ignoramus say that I am quoting the Bible, and I don’t believe in it. Faforo!
Mnikome.
