Kenya has seen shocking murder crimes, but few beats the murder of Sharon Otieno & her unborn baby.
Late 2018, the country was shaken by the news of the discovery of the body of Sharon & her unborn baby. Sharon was 26 years old, and a Medical Records and Information student at Rongo University. At the time of her death, she was 7 months pregnant.
So what happened?
Sharon was having a love affair with the then Migori County governor, Okoth Obado. However, when she got pregnant, Obado asked her to abort, as he feared the pregnancy would tarnish his name. Sharon had a different idea, & didn’t procure an abortion, despite the governor giving her the money to do so.
Tension had already risen between the two lovebirds, but it would escalate when Sharon decided to call a media interview to decry what she considered as the governor neglecting her & her baby. She contacted a Nation reporter called Barrack Oduor, and did an interview with him. Ironically, Sharon would tell the reporter that the governor had given her a whooping 100k 3 weeks earlier for support. Surprised, the reporter would tell her that then he hasn’t absconded his duties. But Sharon would explain that the governor used to give her much more money; sometimes even 200-300k!
Sharon & the reporter would later be kidnapped, but the latter was lucky to escape by jumping from a moving vehicle. Sharon’s body would later be found in the forest, days after being kidnapped. It had numerous knife wounds, meaning she was stabbed to death.
The story would cause so much uproar, the governor would be sued, but up to date, him, being the main suspect, is still free & living his life.
