Jerome Ogola the hoof eater eulogises KCPE. 2023 was the final year for these exams in Kenya and the current students have transitioned to a new curriculum.
He said thus
Now that KCPE (Kenya Certificate of Primary Education) is eating cotton at the morgue, after three decades of existence, it is prudent that we give its genealogy as an eulogy as it is the tradition with every death.
KCPE was a child of CPE (Certificate of Primary Education) who died in 1986 or 85.
CPE was a son of KPE (Kenya Preliminary Education) who died in 1967.
KPE only lived for four years, before his untimely death.
KPE was a child of a mkoloni system known as KAPE (Kenya African Preliminary Examination) which dropped off the word ‘African’ in 1963.
Other examinations have also existed at the primary level. For example in Eldoret the town of my father, some kind apartheid existed in the colonial era.
The children of the Britons attended Highlands and Hill school. Their exam was KEPE (Kenya European Preliminary Examination) or something close to this.
The children of the Asians attended Uasin Gishu school and their exam was KASPE (Kenyan Asian Preliminary Examination) or something close to that.
The chidren of Africans were in the other cheap schools, 64, Sirikwa, Gorogoro etc etc.
The segregation didn’t end there. At night, the Britons enjoyed their beer at Lincoln Hotel on the Sosiani side of the town, as the Boers sipped theirs at the Wagon Hotel, North of Uganda Road which was the boundary that defined these interactions.
Africans were guzzling busaa in Maili Nne. Africans chased away the mokoloni back to Europe, but they are still drowning in droves in the waters of the Mediterranean at the Canary, while trying to follow him there. Maybe it would’ve made sense if he hadn’t chased him. Maybe Africa would be better and guys wouldn’t be swimming across the Mediterranean to get into Europe.
End of quote…
Now we ask you dear Rafeekee, should we have let the colonialist stay? Might Kenya be better?
