One of our readers sent in the following article, after the recently released examination results. Now, whether you choose to listen to the advice is of course up to you as a parent.
Let’s not kid ourselves and kid the children who scored below C- that they will be as rich as Zuckerburg or who is that other man who dropped out of Harvard or Yale…
At this time fathers and mothers are frantic on social media posting balderdash about people who dropped out of school and are millionaires today. We all, excluding a few, yelling about how grades in school are not an end to life’s expectations…
Nonsense! Let’s give ourselves a reality check… I’m addressing parents here….
If your child scored below a D, no university in the world will accept them. Now, what if in the future, after your children make all that imaginary money that you’re telling them about as you console yourself and them, what if the child wants to go and further their studies?
Technically you already locked them out by accepting the poor grade. Universities all over the world have irreducible minimums, donge?
We may blame MaWhat and demand his resignation. We may blame Ruto for excessive politics during the last term. We may blame circumstances.
But in the end we are accountable to our children. If my child had scored below a C-, I would have cancelled Christmas and saved the money because come opening day next year, my child would be back in the form four class or even the form three class!
That is just the kind of parent I am.
I sincerely hope you don’t get carried away by stories of school dropouts who turned into dazzling succeses! Consider the statistics. Those wild succeses are few! The reality is that that child will work a menial job. Do not deny your child that chance to go to further their studies in the future!
Repeat, repeat…is my mantra! At least, get that high school diploma..
