Wahome Thuku’s Advice on How to Stay Safe in Cabs
Wahome first reported that last week TWO days ago, a lady was sexually assaulted on on Ruaka bypass in Kiambu by a driver of a vehicle she had boarded at down. The lady had requested for a Bolt cab.
However, fresh details indicate that she did not board the Bolt cab. She boarded a different car parked in the waiting area of the club where she had spent the better part of the night with friends.
It’s clarified that the vehicle she boarded and whose driver later turned rogue and raped her in a thicket, had nothing to do with Bolt or the rider she had requested. The lady simply boarded a waiting car upon making a critical mistake.
It’s however true that she was attacked in a Bush behind Rubis petrol station near Njathaiji Police Station. She was physically injured by the driver who has rastas, and who took away her phone.
Police have interrogated the Bolt driver and cleared him. They are now hunting for the driver of the strange vehicle involved in the crime. The lady has also met and talked to the Bolt driver and clarified on the matter.
Bolt has equally contacted me through their executive George Abasy-Nengo and PR Manager Sandrah and we agreed I should post these new details. They have assured me that their doors are open for any complaints that may touch on their brand.
How to stay safe
Since you are not me, you may not do it this way:
1. When taking a cab, I sit infront with the driver. Not the back seat where he will keep scanning my face.
2. I have my way of taking all details of car and driver. And keeping him on my radar.
3. A kilometer to the destination, I pay him. That way I can confirm the money has actually gone a phone in his possession at that particular moment. It has not gone elsewhere.
4. If going to an isolated area, I only take the right direction after the cab has left. And yes, even when you think I have gone, I haven’t.
5. On almost all occasions, I will save the cabs number for background check on the driver, from WhatsApp to FB, to twitter.
6. I can tell you which driver carried me when and to where.
